An inspired, magnetic life means to have your cake and eat it, too

I wonder how many of us are doing what we love for a living.

Are you?

I mean, if the name of the game of life is inspired, deliberately magnetic living, settling for less cannot truly be fulfilling.  I found myself pondering this question as I read a couple of past articles in The Bellingham Business Journal.

The first article I read is entitled “What I want to be when I grow up.”  Each of the five people interviewed for the article were successful at what they were doing for a living and even found a measure of joy and pride in doing it.

However, each said their passion lay elsewhere.  Nancy Taylor said she’d be an ornithologist in another life; Brad Colglazier would “find rare, classic and high-end cars for himself and his friends;” Don White would be an advocate for consumers; Winton Smith would have been a racecar driver; and believe it or not, Lylene Johnson would be a tax attorney.

Each is involved tangentially with where they true love lay, but what frequently came up was that they would pursue their passions in earnest once they retired.

The headline of the second article I reviewed was “Are you ready to downsize your career?” It tells the story of 3 Bellingham residents (2 of whom I know and have worked with to varying degrees in the past), formerly workaholics who chose to reorganize their lives to include rest, recreation, and quality (and quantity) of time with family and friends.

The interesting thing is that I had a conversation around this very topic with someone at a local coffee shop.  He commented that he’d rather make $20,000 a year and have a high quality of life than make $50,000 per year working 80 hours a week and being miserable.

I say, why can’t we have our cake and eat it too?

My vision of a happy, prosperous, inspired and magnetic life is doing what I absolutely love right now (not waiting for some future retirement) on my terms and having a high quality of life and earning far more than $50,000 a year.

What do you think of that? Isn’t that what all of us wants?

The good thing is I have the vision, and now I’m steadily moving toward it.

What about you?  What can you do to get more inspired life out of your life right now?

Truth is, as far as we know, in this fleshly body we only have one go-round.

Why not make it an inspired, magnetic one?
